I had a horrid sleep the night before. Lots of dreams about being late and waking up thinking I’d slept in. Got up at 6am and drove to the beach to compete in the Sussan Women’s Fun Run 5k. I was incredibly nervous and didn’t really know what to do when I got there. Luckily I got there a little early so I just kind of wandered around until I figured it out.
Thank goodness for the Operation Move shirts! We stood out in the crowd and Kim, Hilary and I all found each other. All first timers and all seriously nervous! I couldn’t have found better people to run with. Lining up for the start with thousands of other people was not great for the overworked nerves but there wasn’t much time to think about it.
We ran and we walked, talked and laughed. Oh, this is the FUN bit?!! It was great. Once we crossed the finish line, the rest of the Operation Move team found us and taught us a little about recovery when you have a beach nearby! My legs thank you girls so much haha.
If you are a beginning runner (you probably don’t think you’re a runner but you’re wrong!) believe that you can do this too! Bite the bullet and join an event. The atmosphere was amazing and you don’t need to run the whole way to enjoy it. Getting my finisher medallion means I’ll always have something to remember that first race by. I love it (it’s pink, who wouldn’t love it!).
To have a virtual cheer squad with the other members of Operation Movers who couldn’t make it was amazing as well. I couldn’t have done it all without you all! I’m hoping I can show some more people how much this team can help them achieve. Thank you all so very, very much xo
