Life isn’t a 12 week plan.
Operation Move isn’t a 12 week program.
Every year for the past 20 or so, I have resolved to get fitter and quit smoking.
Every year I have failed miserably and beaten myself up for it for a while, then gone back to eating too much and not moving much at all and smoking and drinking. Because why try right? Easier to wait for next Monday, next month, next year. I’ll do it then, for sure.
The problem is, next Monday never comes. There is always a reason not to go for a walk. Too tired, too busy, too many kids, too much work to do. You don’t need to tell me YOUR excuses because they used to be mine.
So instead of telling you why you should join our team for 2014 I thought I would show you.
I have never been a sporty person. I’m not ‘returning’ to fitness, because I’ve never been that person. I’ve been that other person sitting on my bum scoffing at those weird ones out for a run.
I walked past the mirror last week before my run and I did a double take. I couldn’t work out what was weird, but it came to me later that day.
I looked like an athlete. Because I am an athlete. A mother of four, an autism parent and awareness advocate, a shiftworkers wife, a blogger, and an athlete.
You can make all the resolutions you like and give them up a week later. You can accept life as it stands, you can accept that you’ll never feel any better in or about yourself than you do right now.
Or you can find people who want a bit of motivation, just like you do. You can make a 30 minute walk a few days a week part of your normal. That’s all it takes. That is the first and hardest step.
Where you go from there is entirely up to you, but you will have support. Instead of a resolution this year, will you join our team? Will you make a commitment to move in January and check in with your minutes, just for one month to see how it feels?
Are you ready to be all you can be?
